Generally, this takes around 7 days, but it is always a good idea to monitor your cat to check that the transition is going well. To start the transition, introduce the new food as a low proportion of their old – we would recommend a 25% new food to 75% old food ratio - and gradually increase the new-to-old food ratio over ~7 days, until your cat has completely transitioned to the new food. Ensure to monitor your cat’s behaviour and food consumption over this period. We would recommend a 25% new food to 75% old food ratio for the first few days, and if all the signs are good, moving to 50%/50% after ~4 days, 75%/25% after ~6 days. Finally, move to 100% of new food after 7 or 8 days if your cat continues to respond well and tolerate the new food. |
